The Indians head into the game as the favorites
t went exactly how I thought it was going to go.
The Yankees managed to escape the Wild Card game, 7-4, despite a rough outing from Luis Severino, in which he only recorded one out before being pulled by Girardi.
It was clear from the start that Sevy didn't have his best stuff. After throwing a first pitch strike to start the game, he quickly fell behind and threw three straight balls. The next pitch, while in the zone, was left up and over the plate. Brian Dozier didn't waste it, taking Sevy deep to start the game. While he did manage to record an out to Joe Mauer, it was still very obvious he didn't have his control. After letting another runner on, he gave up another home run, this time to Eddie Rosario. Another walk and double later, Sevy was out of the game.
Didi Gregorius got the party started after a rough first half inning. With runners on first and third, Didi pimped a shot into the right field bleachers to tie the game up, 3-3.
To be fair, both starters clearly didn't have it from the start. From the first batter on, you could tell Sevy didn't look comfortable out their. We as fans, shouldn't be too surprised. While he was our ace all year long, postseason baseball in the Bronx is 120x different. The atmosphere, while amazing and the best it has been in years, it brings a lot of pressure along with it. If the Yankees want to beat the Indians, they're going to need him to turn it around and get used to the pressure.
The Yankees start their next series against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night in Cleveland
