Eagles Upset Pats, Capture 1st Super Bowl In Franchise History

What a great game. Both teams competed as hard as they could. Nick Foles stepped up for the Eagles as the backup, and Tom Brady proved why he’s still the GOAT even at age 40.

Eagles kicker Jake Elliott kicked off the scoring with a 25-yard field goal, about 8-minutes into the quarter. New England struck back with a Stephen Gostkowski 26-yarder to tie it up at 3, with 4:20 left in the first quarter.

On the next Eagles possession Legarrette Blount gave them a huge 34-yard gain. On the very next play, Foles unloaded a 34-yard bomb to former Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery for the score. After the Elliott missed extra-point the Eagles led 9-3.

With eight minutes remaining in the second quarter, Blount ran the pigskin in from 21-yards out. The 2-point conversion was no good, so the Eagles led 15-3.

On the next possession the Pats drove down and nailed a 45-yard field goal. 15-6 Eagles, 7:29 remaining in the half.

New England would snag a touchdown with 2:04 left in the half on a James White 26-yard dash to the end zone. That would cut the Philly lead to 3, 15-12.

Philly would play a trick that they had up their sleeve with 38 seconds left in the half. Corey Clement would take a direct snap and pitch it to Trey Burton who threw it up to Foles for the touchdown grab. That gave the Eagles a 10-point cushion at the half.

The Pats came out of the locker rooms firing, Brady tossed a touchdown to Rob Gronkowski from 5-yards out. Pats trailed by 3, 22-19.

On the other side the Eagles scored another touchdown, when Corey Clement received a pass from Foles and took it 22-yards for the score. Philly led by 10, 29-19.

New England struck again, on a Chris Hogan touchdown catch from Brady from 26-yards out. Eagles still led 29-26.

To start the fourth quarter Elliott hit a 42-yarder to extend the Eagles lead to 32-26.

Gronk would catch another touchdown pass from Brady from 4-yards out to take a 33-32 lead.

The Eagles drove down the field and Foles hit Zach Ertz for an 11-yard touchdown. After the failed 2-point conversion attempt the Eagles led with 38-33.

Tom Brady would be set up for yet another game-winning situation. Ball on their own 25-yardline, 2:21 left, down by 5. Can the “GOAT” do it yet again?

The answer is no, no he couldn’t. Brandon Graham got the only sack of the game, and forced a fumble on Brady which was recovered by Derek Barnett of the Eagles. The Eagles would get the ball with 2:16 remaining at the New England 31-yardline. After a few rushes, Elliott would knock through a 46-yard field goal for the 41-33 lead.

Brady would have one shot to tie the game up with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion. He would have to go 91-yards in just 58 seconds.

He couldn’t do it. The Pats fell short. As for the Eagles, they won their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

Despite the loss Brady threw for 505 yards and 3 touchdowns. Danny Amendola caught 8 passes, and 152 yards.

Nick Foles threw 43 times, and completed 28 of those passes. They were completed for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns. That performance would earn him Super Bowl LII MVP.
