Diggs Sends Vikings To NFC Championship Game With Last Second Touchdown
This was by far the best game of the NFL Playoffs this year. Both teams put up great fights, it was just phenomenal.
For the Vikings, Case Keenum threw 40 times, completing 25 of those passes, for 318 yards and one touchdown. Latavius Murray carried the ball 19 times for 50 yards and a touchdown. Stefon Diggs caught 6 passes for a whopping 137 yards and a touchdown.
Drew Brees also completed 25 of 40 passes, for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns. Alvin Kamara carried the rock 11 times for 43 yards, and Michael Thomas caught 7 passes for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Vikings took advantage of the home field and got on the board first. Jerick McKinnon scored on a 14-yard rush to open the game. With 4:45 remaining in the first quarter, Kai Forbath made a 20-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead going into the second quarter.
With 9:58 left in the first half, Latavius Murray gave Minnesota a 17-0 halftime lead with a 1-yard touchdown run.
In the second half, the Saints got on the board when Drew Brees hit Michael Thomas for a 14-yard touchdown, and cut the Viking lead to 10. Thomas would score again with 13:09 left in the game on a 3-yard pass from Brees, to cut the Minnesota lead to 3.
The Vikings would extend their lead on a Forbath 49-yard field goal, 20-14.
The Saints responded with another touchdown, this one from Alvin Kamara on a 14-yard pass from Brees.
The Vikes added another field goal with 1:34 left to take back the lead 23-21.
Once again the Saints responded with a score, a Will Lutz 43-yard field goal with 29 seconds left to take a 24-23 lead.
The vikings would have one more shot to win it. With 7 seconds Case Keenum took the snap, dropped back and lofted a bomb to Stefon Diggs who went up and snagged it. Diggs turned and went 61-yards to the house to give the Vikings the 29-24 win and a spot in the NFC Championship game!
