Titans Score 19 Unanswered Points To Defeat Chiefs
The Titans pulled off one of the greatest comebacks Saturday afternoon, scoring 19 unanswered points and defeating the Chiefs 22-21 in the AFC Wild Card game.
Marcus Mariota was 19 for 31 and threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first playoff game, Derrick Henry ran 23 times for 156 yards and a touchdown in the win.
On the Chiefs side, Alex Smith had 264 yards on 24 completions and also tossed two touchdowns. Kareem Hunt ran 11 times for 42 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Kansas City struck early on in the first quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run from Kareem Hunt. 5-minutes later Travis Kelce caught a 13-yard touchdown pass to give the Chiefs a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Late in the second quarter the Titans got on the board with a 49-yard field goal from Ryan Succop.
With 3 seconds left in the half, Demarcus Robinson caught a 14-yard touchdown pass to give the Chiefs a 21-3 lead at the half.
The Titans wouldn’t quit, coming out of the half the Titans scored on a Mariota 6-yard pass that hit off a defender and was caught by himself. Mariota ran it in for the score and cut the lead to 11.
In the fourth quarter Henry took a handoff 35-yards to the house and made the score 21-16. 8-minutes later Eric Decker caught the eventual game-winning touchdown pass from 22-yards out.
The Titans will play either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the New England Patriots next week in the Divisional Round. The Chiefs finished their season with a 10-6 regular season record and an AFC West Championship.
