Golden Knights Continue to Impress by Beating the Blackhawks 5-4 in Chicago
The United Center in Chicago was packed and the hawk’s fans were ready to cheer on their Blackhawks hoping they could get back on track and upset the west leading Golden Knights. The Blackhawks aren’t having the season they’re custom of having. Coming into the game their record was 19-14-6 sitting 7th in the Central Division, while sitting 5th in the wildcard. While on the other side, the Vegas Golden Knights have been defying the odds by having a fantastic season, being the best team in the western conference. People didn’t expect an expansion team would be this good. Vegas had its eight-game winning streak snapped against the Blues and it was their first regulation loss since December 1st. These two teams met on October 24th in Vegas, where the Knights won 4-2, so the hawks were looking for revenge on their home ice.
The Knights drew first blood by a goal from Alex Tuch which was his 9th of the year. Knights wouldn’t stop there in the 1st period because Jonathan Marchessault scored his 16th goal of the season to put the knights up 2. The first period was winding down but Vinnie Hinosroza would tip the puck into the net to put the hawks on the board right before the 1st intermission. In the second period William Karlsson would score his 21 of the season to put the knights up 3-1, but the Blackhawks stormed back with goals by Patrick Sharp, Nick Schmaltz, and Jonathon Toews. Hawks would be up 4-3 in third period; but the Knights would tie the game at 4 with a goal by Cody Eakin. With 6:07 left to go in the game, Reilly Smith would score a breakaway goal to cap off the comeback and win 5-4. Vegas goalie Malcom Subban would make 28 saves in the victory.
The Golden Knights continue to have a special season and this is a great story for the NHL to have an expansion team be this successful. While on the other side the Chicago Blackhawks are having season to forget. They are having a season that were not used to seeing them have because we are used to seeing them going to the Cup final and winning it. So watch out NHL because the Vegas Golden Knights are for real and they are ready to keep on rolling into the playoffs.
