Celtics Dominate Cavs In Boston
It was Isaiah Thomas’s first game back to the Garden last night, but he wasn’t in action due to rest. IT wasn’t the storyline everyone is talking about today though, it’s how well the Celtics played against the Cavs. It wasn’t like any one player dominated the game for Boston, it was a collective team effort.
On offense Kyrie only scored 11 points. While Jaylen Brown had 14 and Jayson Tatum had 15. Off the bench Terry Rozier had 20 points, and Marcus Smart added another 15.
The offense didn’t carry the C’s though. It was their defense. The Celtics held LeBron James to just 19 points, and J.R. Smith was the only other starter that scored in double-figures with 10. Kyle Korver had 15 off the bench, Jeff Green added 13 and Tristan Thompson had 10.
The Celtics forced 15 turnovers, although they gave it back 16 times, they scored three more points then the Cavs off of those turnovers.
The game was pretty tight up until the end of the 1st quarter when Boston took a 11 point lead entering the 2nd.
In the 2nd quarter Boston held their lead, and led 55-47 at the end of the half.
The 3rd quarter is where Boston blew it open. With about 6 minutes left the Celtics took a 20-point lead, and never looked back. They led at the end of the 3rd quarter 81-68.
There wasn’t much Cleveland could do at that point. Boston extended their lead and took the win 102-88.
Boston stays at home for a matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves next game, on January 5th at 7:00 PM on ESPN.
Cleveland travels to Orlando to meet up with the Magic on January 6th, at 7:00 PM.
