West Coast Cruising, The Rams Could Be on the Way to a Lombardi Trophy

There were many questions about the LA Rams heading into the season, some optimistic, some well.. not so much. Some even questioned the fact if the Rams would even draw a crowd. But now, at the end of December, I guarantee you every person that said something negative in regards to how this season would go, has taken it back already.

On Sunday the Rams pronounced themselves NFC West Champions after beating the Titans 27-23. MVP Candidate Todd Gurley came into the game with 17 touchdowns, and finished with 19 after rushing for 118 yards on the ground and 158 receiving. That was possibly the best thing the Rams could have done on Saturday, GIVE THE BALL TO TODD GURLEY! Gurley is still making a late push for MVP candidate, which in my mind, has been a longtime coming. It isn’t just Gurley doing the dirty work, its second year QB Jared Goff as well. The sophomore quarterback threw for 301 yards and 4 touchdown passes. With the win over the Titans on Sunday the Rams clinched the NFC West for the first time since 2003.

Now the question that arises for many fans and including myself is does this young built team have a legitimate chance at the Lombardi Trophy. If this were August, with 100/1 odds at a Super Bowl, I would say no way. But now with 10/1 maybe even better, I think they are contenders. Now don’t get me wrong there are definitely a lot of other contenders and some teams even more deserving. The one thing I do know, is that this team has the potential to do pretty much anything with the NFC wide open. If the playoffs were to start right now, the Rams would play the Falcons, a team who has the experience and who is still looking for revenge after last years Super Bowl defeat to the Patriots. The Rams haven’t made the playoffs in almost 14 years, which brings to questions to a team with such potential. They have potential and a lot of it, but it is really limited in some places, especially with age. It just seems right, for a team that has waited so long for an opportunity to prove themselves.

The Rams will play the 49ers in the regular-season finale on Sunday, with most of the starters taking a seat on the bench. McVay this week has made it seem like that is exactly what the team is planning on doing. There is nothing wrong with that and it’s a good idea, the Rams are just conveying that they are trying to do what is best for the football team.

The ideal thing to takeaway from this season if you are the LA Rams so far is that 1. You made the playoffs and in doing so clinched the NFC East and 2. You have the fans (Yes they exist) really happy and that’s a critical factor to a team on the verge of a magical season.
