Astros Capture First World Series In Franchise History
For the first time in franchise history, the Houston Astros are World Series champions! On Wednesday night the Astros and Dodgers collided in Los Angeles. The Astros came out red hot, scoring all 5 of their runs in the first 2 innings. In the 1st inning, Alex Bregman reached base on a throwing error by Cody Bellinger, which scored George Springer to give the Astros a 1-0 lead early. The very next batter was Jose Altuve, and he grounded out to Bellinger, but that ball scored Bregman, 2-0 Astros. In the 2nd inning, Lance McCullers Jr., came to bat. He grounded out to second baseman Logan Forsythe, but Brian McCann was able to score on the play and the Astros took a 3-0 lead. The next batter was George Springer, who sent one deep to left-center and over the wall! Marwin Gonzalez was on third base for that so that homer gave the ‘Stros a 5-0 lead! Yu Darvish only lasted 1.2 innings, and gave up 5 runs. In the 6th inning, Andre Ethier singled in Joc Pederson to put the Dodgers on the board! By that time it would be too late though. Charlie Morton was outstanding out of the bullpen for Houston! He threw 4 innings, giving up just 2 hits, and 1 run. George Springer was awarded the World Series MVP, as he batted .379, with three doubles, five home runs, and seven RBIs!
