On a gorgeous fall night in October, the 6-6-1 Broadalbin-Perth Patriots would travel to Ichabod Crane to take on the 15-0-1 Riders in the Class B sectional Quarterfinals. Both teams tried to play a fast game early on, trying to push the pace. As the first half went on you could see the Riders trying to keep the ball more and retain possession. The Riders had some nice shots, but senior goalie Ian Halloran had some very good saves to keep BP in the game. With just about 32 minutes in the first half remaining senior Kevin Winglosky obtained possession, put some nice moves on the Patriots defense, and buried a shot to give the Riders a 1-0 lead. Ichabod would have more opportunities, but once again goalie Ian Halloran kept them in the game.
In the second half, Ichabod tried to play fast, but BP’s defense stopped them numerous times. The Patriots had some free kick opportunities in dangerous areas, but the defense of Matt Ragosta, Jack Kirby, Nick Gallo, and Seamus Wolfe would repel the BP attempts. The Riders would get a corner kick later in the half and junior Anthony Carlucci would deliver a beautiful shot that bent right into the net, and gave the Riders a 2-0 lead.
The Riders will take on the Catskill Cats on Tuesday in Watervliet at 7 pm in the Class B Sectional Semifinals. Catskill defeated Mechanicville on Saturday, 1-0.
