Gabbie Cox was on fire on Thursday night, leading the Ichabod Crane Girls Varsity soccer team past Ravena by a score of 4-2, where Cox scored all 4 goals. Ravena took the lead early on a goal from McFarren. They struck again on a goal from Mitchell. Ichabod started to bring the pressure and finally Ellie Plourde connected with Cox for the goal. At the end of the half Ravena led 2-1.
The Riders offense came out of the half and continued to put the pressure on Ravena’s defense. Twelve minutes into the half Cox tied it on a ball from Chloe Pratt. In the final minutes with the game tied Cox almost had the go ahead goal, but missed on a ball that hit the crossbar. Ravena responded with many attacks, but the Ichabod defense of Larissa Gomez, Camryn Hebert, Sarah Dugan, Shannon Verbraska, and Jenna Kolb would not let up. With around 5 minutes left to play Cox received a pass from Bella Sakolish and put it away for the go ahead goal! Out of the kickoff Ravena had a shot that missed and hit the side netting. With 2 minutes left Verbraska won a 50/50 ball and passed it ahead to Cox for another goal.
With the 4-2 win Ichabod Crane moves to 1-1 on the season and Ravena falls to 0-2. Ichabod will play at Albany Academy on Tuesday, September 5th at 4:15 pm. Ravena’s next contest will be at home vs Watervliet on Tuesday, September 5th at 4:15 pm.
