Addison Reed Acquired By The Red Sox For Prospects
On Monday, July 31st, otherwise known as trade deadline day for the 2017 MLB season the Boston Red Sox acquired yet another 8th inning setup man for star closer Craig Kimbrel. This is Dave Dombrowski’s third attempt at getting a setup man for Kimbrel. The first time he acquired carson Smith from the Seattle Mariners, who battled numerous injuries dating back to last season. Dombrowski’s second attempt was acquiring Tyler Thornburg in the offseason from the Milwaukee Brewers for third baseman Travis Shaw, who by the way is having a career year and Thornburg has yet to pitch in a game for the Red Sox. Will the third time be the charm for Dombrowski? Will Addison Reed be the setup man for the Boston Red Sox bullpen?
Reed pitched for the New York Mets this year. In 48 games he is 1-2, with a 2.57 ERA, in 49 innings and has struck out 48 batters. Reed started his career in Chicago with the White Sox where he was very good. In three years with the Sox his K/9 was 14.73, 8.84, and 9.08. That’s pretty good. The past two seasons his K/9 has been 10.55, and 8.82, also very good for the 28-year old.
I think Reed will provide a positive role in the Sox bullpen. He will almost be a Brad Ziegler type of guy who was on last years team. (BTW I wish Ziegler was still on the team. Loved that dude).
