Red Sox Aquire Nunez From Giants In Exchange For Two Prospects
As of July 26th 2017 Eduardo Nunez is the newest Boston Red Sock. Nunez was traded from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitching prospects Shaun Anderson and Gregory Santos. As a fan of the Red Sox I really like this trade, Nunez can fill our whole at third base and provide a good stick that hits for average in the 6, 7, or 8 hole of our lineup. Nunez is currently hitting .358 since June 1st which is 4th-best in the majors among players with 100 or more plate appearances. Like I said before Nunez hits for average, so his power numbers aren’t fantastic. Which actually is a little unfortunate because we could use some power in the order but it’s not a humongous deal. On the season Nunez is hitting .307, with 4 home runs, 29 RBIs, and an OPS of .745. For what they gave up I think the Red Sox won this trade. Shaun Anderson, a right-handed pitcher was at Class-A Advanced Salem. He is 3-3 this year, with a 3.39 ERA. Gregory Santos the other prospect that the Sox gave up was with the DSL Red Sox where he was 2-0, with a 0.90 ERA in 7 games. Dave Dombrowski has certainly shown that he is in a “win now” mentality and I think this trade proves that once again. The Sox needed a third baseman and he went out and got one, and in the process he gave up two prospects. Now these two prospects were not on teams radars, they aren’t on the Top 100 prospect list, they are just basic prospects. I think the Sox definitely won this trade and I think Nunez will provide a nice spark towards the bottom half of the lineup going into the playoffs.
