Devers Makes MLB Debut In Seattle
Rafael Devers made his major league debut on Tuesday night (July 25th) in Seattle vs King Felix and the Seattle Mariners. Devers got his first taste of MLB action in the bottom of the first when he fielded a Robinson Cano ground ball, and made the play to end the inning. His first at-bat came in the top of the 3rd inning when he lined out to centerfielder Guillermo Heredia. He hit again in the top of the 6th and drew a walk, and would then come around to score on a Dustin Pedroia double. Devers got back into the box in the bottom of the 7th and grounded out into a 5-6-3 double play. Devers would walk again in the 9th. Devers would come back to hit in a big spot in the top of the 11th inning, with 2 outs in a tied game, 4-4 and runners on 1st and 3rd, Devers struck out swinging on 3 pitches. Devers final at-bat came in the 13th inning, yes the 13th inning when he flew out to Heredia. All in all he did not have an awful game, certainly not the best MLB Debut ever but he worked the count in all but one of his at-bats, his first at-bat he worked the count and put the ball in play which is what you want to do. His second at-bat he worked the count again, walked and eventually came around to score. His third at-bat he worked the count again and walked yet again. His fourth at-bat was obviously his worst at-bat of the night striking out on three pitches. His fifth and final at-bat was a good at-bat, he fought hard, worked the pitcher, fought some off, made good contact it was just right at the centerfielder which was unfortunate. This game was definitely a live and learn game for Devers though, he wasn’t going to go out there and mash 3 dingers in his MLB Debut, I actually expected him to not get a hit tonight. I think he’ll be just fine, now he knows what it’s like to go up against MLB pitching.
