Red Sox: Number 1 Prospect Devers Called Up

The Red Sox number 1 prospect third baseman Rafael Devers has been called up to the MLB team from Triple-A Pawtucket today according to President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski. Devers is a highly talented prospect from the Dominican Republic. The Sox acquired him through International Free Agency. Devers began 2015 with the Greenville Drive. He hit .288 with 11 home runs and 70 RBI’s in his one year at Class-A. After 2015 he was promoted to Class-A Advanced with the Salem Red Sox where he hit .282, with 11 home runs, and 71 RBI’s. So he was pretty consistent those two years. In 2017 he started his year with the Portland Sea Dogs at Double-A where he shined. He played in just 77 games but he hit for a .300 average, with 18 home runs and drove in 56 runs. After those 77 games he was promoted to Triple-A with the Pawtucket Red Sox. He’s played in just 9 games with them, hitting .400, with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s. Dever’s bat is no question, but the question is his defensive ability. How well will he be able to perform at the hot corner? Hopefully he will give the Sox a nice spark to the lineup that they have been looking for the past 2 weeks. Is Dever’s the future at third base for thee Boston Red Sox? We’ll just have to find out! Devers is expected to be in Seattle tomorrow, Monday, July 24th, but won’t start until Tuesday at 10:10 pm against the Seattle Mariners in Seattle. Drew Pomeranz and Felix Hernandez are set to square off in that matchup, on NESN and ROOTNW!
