Sox Collect Win #50, Defeat Rays 8-3

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, 8-3. Drew pomeranz was on the hill for the Sox providing a solid outing going 6 strong innings allowing just 2 earned runs on just 6 hits while striking out 6. Dustin Pedroia was 2 for 5, launching his 3rd home run of the year, he also drove in 2 runs. Hanley Ramirez went 3 for 4 hitting his 13th bomb of the year and driving in a run. Deven Marrero also added 2 hits to the 11-hit attack. Jake Odorizzi was shut down after 4.1 innings, as he allowed 7 earned runs on 8 hits. Tampa had 10 hits total, 2 of them were Brad Miller’s, and 2 more were provided by Evan Longoria. Pomeranz got the win and is now 9-4, and Odorizzi caught the L and dropped to 5-4. The Rays and Red Sox face off again tomorrow night (Saturday, July 8th) in game 3 of the 4 game set. Rick Porcello (4-10, 5.01 ERA) gets the start against Alex Cobb (6-6, 4.01 ERA) at 4:10 pm at Tropicana Field.
