Gordon Hayward Signs With The Bos… Wait
So around 3:00 pm ET on Tuesday, July 4th it was reported that Gordon Hayward was planning on signing with the Boston Celtics over the Utah Jazz and Miami Heat. This was big news for the Celtics and Celtics Nation. Boston was in the mix for a lot of superstars in the past year. Last year they were in the mix to trade for Demarcus Cousins who was eventually traded to the New Orleans Pelicans during the All-Star Break. Next it was Jimmy Butler. The C’s were also in the mix to get Butler from the Bulls, but Butler ended up being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Blake Griffin was someone they had targeted for a couple years now and he ended up resigning with the Los Angeles Clippers on a 5 year- $173 million contract. Lastly and probably the most painful guy that the Celtics missed out on was Paul George. George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder for absolute squat. Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis were sent to Indy for PG-13. The Celtics were a favorite to land PG in a trade but wanted to wait until after they signed Gordon Hayward. Now at about 4:00 pm ET, an hour after it was reported that Hayward was to sign with Boston, it was reported that Hayward’s agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN “Gordon hasn’t made a decision yet. We are still working through it.” So it’s not official yet that Gordon Hayward has signed with the Boston Celtics. Hayward is expected to make his decision today.
