Make It Four Straight for The Boys in Blue, Defeat Minnesota United 3-1
NYCFC is rolling right now and currently one of the best teams to watch if you asked me. Coming into Thursday night’s game, City has been red hot on a three game win streak. With the confidence high after the Derby win, they kept it going tonight against Minnesota at home.
An early goal by Minnesota led to two NYCFC comeback goals by Jack Harrison and Alexander Callens. Villa iced it with an amazing goalzo to lead NYCFC to their club record fourth consecutive victory.
A change in goalkeeper in this match for City. It was Erik Johanson who copped the start for tonights match. With Sean Johnson filling USMNT duties, it was a nice refresher to fans and media that we can show depth in goal. This was Johanson’s first start since last year’s MLS Cup run. He was unable to capitalize on the save in the 9th minute that led to the Loons only goal of the game.
The ever-dangerous Jack Harrison forced Bobby Shuttleworth into a good save at his near post when he darted inside from the left on 20’ but the rest of the half was a tale of frustration - until the 37th minute.
Ben Sweat was once again the creator, ghosting in on the overlap in behind the Minnesota backline and pulling back for Callens who had maraudered forward from defense to slot home his second NYCFC goal.
My man of the match was Jack Harrison. Again, another great game by the young stud lead to another City victory. He is getting better every match, as he is a big factor of the teams points for the week. This game he scored the second City goal of the match and setup Villa’s beauty to secure the win.
Like I keep saying that is 4 straight now for NYCFC. What’s next? The boys in blue head to Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps next Wednesday. They return home on July 19th when Eastern Conference foe Toronto FC comes to town.
