Sox Fall To Royals, Miss Out On Chance To Take Control of AL East

The Red Sox fall to yet another mediocre team, this time it was the Kansas City Royals 4-2. The Sox just needed to win this game and they would be in first place in the AL East and rise above their rivals the New York Yankees, but no the Red Sox can’t win two baseball games in a row. (If you can't tell as a Red Sox fan I'm pretty upset about not winning this game so bare with me). How do you not beat the Kansas City Royals?? This team was 33-35 coming into today, not even over .500. For crying out loud they are 3rd in the AL Central… the AL Central!!! Anyways, Hector Velazquez was on the mound, he went 5.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. On the bright side Jackie Bradley Jr went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI and one of those hits was a game tying 2-run shot in the 4th inning. For the Royals Jason Hammel started and got the win. He went 7 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 4. Kelvin Herrera came in in the 9th to shut the door and collect his 16th save of 2017. Lorenzo Cain went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Eric Hosmer went 1 for 2 with a run scored and 2 RBI, that lone hit coming on a 2 - run dinger in the 3rd. The Sox and Royals battle in KC again tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 20th) at 8:15 pm. Chris Sale (8-3, 2.82 ERA) will be on the hill for the Sox and for the Royals it will be Matt Strahm (2-3, 3.67 ERA). In order for the Sox to take first place they need to win and they also need the Yankees to lose to the Angels in New York at 7:05 pm.
