#ICYMI Porcello Has Ugly Start, Sox Drop Game 2 In Houston
The bats were quiet yet again for the Red Sox as they dropped game 2 of a three game series last night 7-1 to the Houston Astros. The Sox had 3 hits total last night, one coming from a Chris Young homerun (his 3rd on the year) which would be their only run of the night. Pretty Ricky was on the mound, but he wasn’t so pretty going 6 innings but allowing 7 earned runs on 10 hits, two of those hits were home runs from Jose Altuve (his 10th) and Carlos Beltran (his 9th). Austin Maddox made his MLB debut for the Sox coming in relief of Porcello in the 7th, and he looked really good. He gave up 0 hits, 0 runs, and didn’t walk a batter. But that would be all for Maddox as Fernando Abad came in in the 8th to strike out 2 and give up just 1 hit. David Paulino was on the hill for the ‘Stros and he was looking good for all 6 innings, he gave up just 1 run (the CY homer) and only 3 hits, he also struck out 4. Chris Devenski relieved him allowing 0 hits and 0 runs in the 7th. After Devenski Luke Gregerson came in in the 8th and struck out a batter, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. Dayan Diaz closed it out in the 9th with a strikeout. Jose Altuve and Carlos Beltran had big days at the plate, Altuve going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI. He also got his 19th double and his 10th dinger of 2017. As for Beltran he was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, and 3 RBI. He also collected his 9th homer of 2017 and his 15th double of the year as well. The final game of the series will be tonight (Sunday, June 18th) at 8:05 pm as David Price (1-1, 5.09 ERA) gets the start for the Sox and on the bump for the Astros is Joe Musgrove (4-5, 4.81 ERA). If the Sox want to close out the series on a high note their bats have to be more effective and Price has to give them a quality start.
