#ICYMI: Mookie’s Clutch Dinger Lifts Red Sox Past Astros
The Houston Astros came into this game with a league best 45-22 record. They left with a 45-23 record as the Boston Red Sox came in and took game 1 of a 3 game series 2-1. Drew Pomeranz was on the mound for the Red Sox, and normally thats a bad thing, but today surprisingly it was a good thing as he went 6.1 innings allowing just 1 earned run (a Brian McCann dinger) on 4 hits, while striking out 4. Joe Kelly earned the win and is now 3-0, and Craig Kimbrel earned his 19th save of the year. Mike Fiers got the start for the ‘stros going 7 innings and allowing just 1 earned run (Mitch Moreland RBI Single) on 5 hits while striking out 4. Will Harris got the loss and is now 2-2 on the year. Offensively for the Red Sox they weren't great, but they were a step up from Thursday night’s 1-0 loss to the Phillies. Jackie Bradley Jr. went 1 for 4 with a triple which was his 2nd of the year. Mookie Betts went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and his 12th home run of the year, which came off of Harris in the 8th to give the Sox a 2-1 lead late. The Astros didn't have as much offense as usual, but Jose Altuve went 2 for 3 with a double, Carlos Correa also went 2 for 3, and Brian McCann went 1 for 4 with a run scored, and an RBI, as he hit his 10th homer of the year off of Pomeranz in the 7th. The Sox and ‘stros collide again in Houston tomorrow night (Saturday, June 17th) at 8:15 pm as the reigning AL Cy-Young award winner Rick Porcello (3-8, 4.67 ERA) is on the bump vs David Paulino (0-0, 6.59 ERA).
