David Villa Nets Two, NYCFC Ruins Orlando’s Hot Home Streak

The best home team in the MLS, Orlando, squared off against the best road team in the MLS, NYCFC this weekend. Coming in Orlando was looking to complete the season series, and with big players returning for NYCFC, they were the turning point of the match.

It all started early on a dumb defensive decision by Kaka, a hand ball in the box leading to a David Villa goal. The goal put a lot of pressure onto Orlando due to the way City was playing defense. NYCFC dominated Orlando largely by controlling possession in the central midfield and not giving up the ball. One of the key figures in doing that was Alex Ring, who was a physical, aggressive presence on Sunday, much like he has been all season. Rodney Wallace added an amazing goal which gave City a 2-0 lead and Villa netted his second to end it. Cyle Larin had the ability to bring Orlando back on a PK, but failed the attempt off the cross bar.

Only a brief recap of the game, but more to come this week when NYCFC is back in action when they take on Atlanta United on Sunday at 5pm!
