Sox Drop 2 Out of 3 In Mother’s Day Weekend Series to Rays
It’s been a rough season so far for the Red Sox and it just got rougher. After it was looking like it would be the time of the year the Sox would roll through, they lose the 3 game series to the 19-21 Tampa Bay Rays. Game 1 was played on Friday as Pretty Ricky, Rick Porcello got the start and wasn’t so pretty allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits in innings. Alex Cobb was on the hill for the Rays and he went 6.1 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on just 4 hits. The Sox only managed 5 hits, Xander Bogaerts had 2 of them, going 2 for 3 with a double. Sandy Leon had a nice day going 1 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and a double. Besides those two guys the Red Sox had nothing. Yes they had 2 other hits coming from Chris Young, and Josh Rutledge, but 5 hits is not enough. Granted they scored 4 runs on just 5 hits, but 4 runs won’t do the job. The next day the Sox started at 1:10 pm due to inclement weather. Chris Sale got the start and at this point in the season if Chris Sale starts it's a pretty much guaranteed win. The Sox won 6-3 behind a Mookie dinger and 11 K’s from Chris Sale! That was his 7th consecutive game with 10+ strikeouts, tying an MLB record. The offense was better, Mookie went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, a double and a dinger. Deven Marrero also had a double and 2 RBI’s. Craig Kimbrel got his 11th save striking out 2 in the 9th inning. Then on Sunday, Mother’s Day the Red Sox just sucked. Poopy Pants Pomewanz was back and threw just 3 innings due to injury, and get this… he actually DIDN’T give up a home run! I know right! Crazy!! The offense was back to not doing anything only scoring 2 runs off Matt Andriese… yeah I know, who’s that guy. Pomewanz turned the ball over to the bullpen and they imploded. Ben Taylor gave up 1 run, Matt Barnes gave up a run, Robbie Ross Jr. gave up 3, and Heath Hembree gave up 4, in just 0.1 of an inning. The bats were quiet once again, only 6 hits. Two of them from Christian Vazquez who went 2 for 4. Deven Marrero had another double and Xander Bogaerts went 1 for 3 with an RBI double. The Red Sox take on the St. Louis Cardinals in a 2-game series starting Tuesday night in St. Louis. Eduardo Rodriguez gets the start on Tuesday at 8:15 pm against Lance Lynn. On Wednesday Rick Porcello is on the bump against Mike Leake at 8:15 pm.
