Senators Strike First, Take Game 1
The Ottawa Senators took game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals over the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 2-1 in overtime. The Senators would be first to strike as Jean-Gabriel Pageau would score with 6 minutes left in the first. This goal would come from a beautiful feed from Bobby Ryan to Pageau and he would put it in the make it 1-0 in favor of the Senators. Then it was a blank from there to the third. The second period would be a blank as Craig Anderson made 11 saves for Ottawa and Marc-Andre Fleury would make 12 for the Penguins. Then the tides turned in favor of the Penguins in the third period. With only 6 minutes left in the game Chris Kunitz would throw a puck on net and Evgeni Malkin would deflect the puck past Anderson to tie the game at 1-1. This would be the last goal of regulation, so it had to take overtime. Only 4 minutes into overtime Bobby Ryan would go on a breakaway and he would put the puck in the net on a backhand shot to give the Senators a 2-1 win and a 1-0 lead in the series.
