Two Ding Dongs From Leon Help Sox to 17-6 Win Over Twins
Another day another double digits in the runs column for the boys from Boston as they take 2 out of 3 from the Minnesota Twins. Sandy Leon led the 15-hit attack with 2 dingers, and 4 RBI’s. Mookie Betts also went yard which was one of his 3 hits as he finished 3 for 6 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Mitch Moreland (AKA Mitchy Two Bags) also had 4 RBI’s off his double and single. Chris Sale got the start on the bump today and he went a solid 6 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits, which most people would be upset about but when your offense provides you 17 runs it’s not so bad. Sale ended up with 10 strikeouts, his 6th straight game with 10 strikeouts or more. Joe Kelly, Joey Kittens, Joseph Kelly whatever you call him came into relief in the ninth and walked a batter, but eventually somehow someway got out of the inning. For the second straight day the Twins bats weren’t that loud, even though they scored 6 runs they only managed 6 hits. 2 of those 6 hits went to Jorge Polanco who also collected 2 RBI’s. Kennys Vargas hit his 2nd home run of 2017 and added 2 RBI’s as well. Ervin Santana entered the day with an 0.66 ERA which was first in the Majors and he left with a 1.33 ERA. He allowed 6 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings. He also gave up 4 home runs, the same amount of batters he struck out. The Red Sox head to Milwaukee where they start a 3-game series on Tuesday against the 16-16 Brew Crew. First pitch for game 1 will be at 7:40 pm. The pitching matchup will be 4-2 Wily Peralta vs 3-1 Drew Pomeranz.
