Penguins Advance, Knock Off Blue Jackets
The Pittsburgh Penguins closed out their series against the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 5-2 to win the series 4 games to 1. This game was in the Penguins control from the beginning of the game , and they showed it with scoring 9 minutes into the game as Phil Kessel would snipe the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky on the powerplay to make the game 1-0. The Penguins would continue to put pressure on the Jackets because as only 1 minute into the second, Byran Rust would put in a rebound to make it 2-0. Then only 2 minutes later, Rust would strike again as he took a shot and then he poked in his own rebound to make it 3-0, this goal would eventually be the winner. Columbus would do their best to stay in this game because 6 minutes later, William Karlsson would score on his own rebound to make it 3-1. Then with 7 minutes remaining, Boone Jenner would bat a puck out of mid air to score on the powerplay to make it 3-2. That would be Columbus’s last goal of the night and the playoffs. Going into the 3rd, Columbus still had hopes to win this game, but those hopes ran out when Sidney Crosby would blast a one timer past Bobrovsky on the powerplay to make it 4-2. Then 1 minute later Scott Wilson would put in a puck with a backhand shot to make it 5-2. In this win Marc Andre Fleury posted 49 saves for the win. This is the second year in a row that the Penguins have reached the second round, last year beating the favored Capitals.
