Leafs stun Caps, Bring Series Into Own Hands
The Toronto Maple Leafs edge out the Washington Capitals to win game 3 and take their first lead in a playoff series since 2003-2004. Washington would strike first, at 2 minutes into the first tas Nicklas Backstrom would tip in a one timer to make it 1-0. 2 more minutes later Alexander Ovechkin would snipe the puck past Anderson to make it 2-0. 10 minutes later Auston Matthews would get lucky as his shot bounces off of a Capitals defender to make the game 2-1. 5 minutes into the second Evgeny Kuznetsov would score from a bad angle to make the game 3-1 Capitals. With 4 minutes left in the second Nazem Kadri would score because of yet another bounce off a Capitals defender to make it 3-2. With 30 seconds left in the second period, William Nylander would force Holtby to make a save, but the puck comes right to Nylander as he buries it into an empty cage to make it 3-3 going to the third. The third period would be scoreless, but with time dying in the period the Capitals would take a penalty with 16 seconds to go in the period. Then with 8 seconds on the powerplay and 18 minutes left in OT, Nazem Kadri feeds a pass to Tyler Bozak who tips in the game winning goal.
