Guentzel Scores Hat Trick, Penguins Taking Over Series
The Pittsburgh Penguins took a 3 games to none series lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jake Guentzel’s playoff hat trick, with one of the goals being the game winning goal. The Columbus Blue Jackets would strike first only 11 seconds into the game on a goal from Cam Atkinson as he tucked in a rebound in front of Fleury. Jake Guentzel would score his first of three goals as he scored three minutes later from a bad angle to tie the game at 1. The Jackets would strike two minutes later as Cam Atkinson would score his second of the game after picking up on a bad turnover in the Penguins zone to make the 2-1. Zach Werenski would score a minute later on the powerplay with a shot from the blue line to make it 3-1. Five minutes into the second Bryan Rust would score on a deflection to make it 3-2. Then with 13 minutes remaining Bryan Rust would score his second of the night as the Penguins picked up on a Zach Werenski injury to tie the game up. Around the 11 minute mark, Jake Guentzel would score on the powerplay as yet again he scored from a bad angle. Four minutes later Brandon Dubinsky would jump onto a rebound to make the game a 4-4 tie. With 7 minutes left in the first overtime, Jake Guentzel would score from right in front of the Blue Jackets net to win game 3 and get the hat trick.
