Canadiens Tie Series, Win in Overtime
The Montreal Canadiens came into game 2 looking to tie it before going to the Big Apple, and that’s what the Canadiens did. The Canadiens would put pressure onto the Rangers early into the first, as Lundqvist would lose his stick, and Jeff Petry would capitalize and score for the Canadiens first goal this series. The Rangers would make sure it would not stay this way for long, at 6 minutes left Michael Grabner would jump on a turnover by the Canadiens and score to tie the game. Then at 4 minutes left, Paul Byron would put the puck into a wide open cage giving the Habs the lead again. From here to the end of the third it was all New York. Both goaltenders would make key saves to keep their team in the game. Then at 10 minutes left in the second, Jimmy Vesey would go tape to tape to Rick Nash who would snipe it on Price and the Rangers tied it here. Then with 5 minutes to go in the second, Brendan Smith would throw it on net and Mats Zuccarello would deflect it in for the Rangers to take their first lead of the game. Then the rest of the third, Carey Price shinned for the Habs, making key saves for Montreal to stay alive. With only 17 seconds remaining, Tomas Plekanec would tie the game for Montreal as there was a scramble in front of Henrik Lundqvist. Then throughout overtime it was another goalie duel, with Lundqvist and Price making huge saves. Then with 1 minute remaining in the first overtime, there was a fight for the puck and Alexander Radulov would poke the puck home and would tie this series up at 1.
