Sharks Bite Down on Oilers, Take Game 1
The San Jose Sharks look to take a repeat to the Stanley Cup finals after they lost to the Penguins in a hard fought 6 game series, but first they have to get past the red-hot Oilers and Art Ross winner Connor McDavid. Both teams started this game at a red-hot pace, knowing how important game 1 always is. About 7 minutes into the first period Oscar Klefbom would net the Oilers first playoff goal in 11 years. Then with 3 minutes remaining Milan Lucic would net the Oilers second, and last goal of that game. Then, it was all San Jose from there on out. Joel Ward would score 2 minutes in on a wrap around pass from Joonas Donskoi to get the Sharks on the board. It took San Jose at least another full period before they would score thanks to Paul Martin, who scored 6 minutes into the 3rd period. From here to overtime, it was a goalie duel. Then 4 minutes into the first overtime Melker Karlsson would score his first playoff OT goal to win game 1 for the Sharks by a score of 3-2.
