NHL will not participate in 2018 Olympics
The NHL has announced that they will not go to the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The announcement was made on April 3rd by the commissioner Gary Bettman. This is the first time that the NHL will not go to the Olympics since 1994 when they were supposed to go to Norway. Instead, players from anywhere could play. So, college, juniors, OHL, WHL, and the AHL will play, with others from different countries. Many players around the league strongly disagree with this decision to not play this year. They think this because the Olympics is the best way for the NHL to gain fans from all around the world. There are also players who agree with this decision. The reason they agree is because going to South Korea around this time is a risk, but it also gives all these young guys to represent their country in the game they all love. However, the NHL will travel to China and Sweden for 3 regular season games next year for their Global Series. This could be the start of a whole new series the NHL will start in the future.
