Dustin Johnson Withdraws From Masters
The spotlight is on Dustin Johnson after withdrawing from The Masters, just before round one was set to begin. This story is making national headlines, all over the media world. It all started when he supposedly fell down the stairs. He injured his back on something that people would have least expected to happen.
DJ, never had winning a green jacket before, was looking to change that coming in. He took the week off last week, but before that he went on a tear of three straight tour wins. For most fans, this was really unexpected as for some he is a fan favorite.
This morning, Johnson informed the Masters officials that he would give it a go for round one. He made it all the way to the first tee, when he turned around and walked right back to the clubhouse to tell officials that he was withdrawing from the tournament. Johnson added to the media, “I couldn’t swing full”. If you have ever seen DJ’s swing before, you know that he uses every single piece of the body to hit the ball as far as he does. If he can’t even swing halfway, then what is the point of playing.
This could possibly kill Johnson’s momentum, a minor setback if you want to call it that. But with the World #1 out of contention, this opens up opportunity for other players, especially those without a green jacket. Like I just mentioned there are still tons of guys that still don’t have a jacket, including big names in Rory Mcilroy, Jason Day and Justin Thomas. It is anyone’s game in golf, as we saw last year with Jordan Spieth. For now it is still early, but don’t expect Charlie Hoffman to hold onto that lead for too long.
