Angels Use 8 Pitchers, No Hit the Mariners in Spring Training
This story may not be that important because it is Spring Training, but it is a good sign for the Angels coming into the season. The past few seasons the Angels have struggled with their rotation and their bullpen. With a total rotation ERA of 4.28, the best in the whole MLB being 3.15.
Friday night was special for the 8 pitchers in the Angels rotation, even though they still needed all the help they could get. The defense was the help for the Halos, coming up with three clutch stops in the ninth inning to secure the no hit bit. It was all up to 24-year-old Abel De Los Santos in the 9th. The first out of the ninth was a beautiful dive by CJ Cron, the second was by RF Shane Robinson who flew up off the ground to catch the fly ball and the third was by third baseman Sherman Johnson on a solid throw off of a dive.
The Angels broke history on Friday night, recording their first spring no-hitter since March 16th, 1996. The 8 pitchers combined for 12K’s, Bailey adding 3 in the 5th inning. This is the second no-hitter this spring training and the first in the Cactus League. NYY Tanaka along with two other relievers combined for a no hitter on March 17th against Detroit.
