#11 Xavier Upsets #2 Arizona, West Region Sweet Sixteen Breakdown
The Sweet Sixteen kicked off in the West Region on Thursday. The first game played was #1 Gonzaga and #4 West Virginia. It was a great game to watch and came down to the final seconds. Both teams had goals set in mind and that was to get to the Final 4. Gonzaga is one step closer, after beating the Mountaineers 61-58. With the ball in their possession and about 10 seconds left West VIrginia kept dribbling and dribbling and dribbling, wasting way too much time off the clock which caused them to throw up an ugly shot. The second game was between cinderella team #11 Xavier and a team who many thought could win this tournament #2 Arizona. Xavier had made some upsets this tournament defeating #6 Maryland, and #3 Florida State, could they add another team to their list? Well they could’ve and they did, upsetting the Wildcats 73-71. Trevon Bluiett had 25 for the Musketeers. Sophomore Alonzo Trier had 19 for the Wildcats in the losing effort. The Elite Eight game will be played on March 25th at 6:09 pm on TBS at the SAP Center in San Jose, California as #1 Gonzaga takes on #11 Xavier!
