March Madness: 4 Teams That Could Make a Run

There are for sure a lot of top teams that can make a run at the tournament this year, but this article is here to prove four teams that aren’t at the top that could make a run.

1. Team: UCLA

Why They Could Make a Run: UCLA has been there all season, they just haven’t gotten the credit for where they stand. With a record of 29-4, their only four losses have come to big name teams in Arizona and Oregon, all conference opponents. The Bruins are currently sitting at a 3 seed in the south region. On their side of the bracket their only foe is Kentucky, and if they reach that point they will be in the Elite 8. If UNC is upset, then UCLA would be the highest seed remaining which would give them a big chance to get to the Final 4. Led by freshman Lonzo Ball, the Bruins play like a team and will hopefully make a run while they still have Lonzo. They kick it off on the 17th against Kent State.

2. Team: SMU

Why They Could Make a Run: SMU is a special team, unlike the others in the NCAA. SMU gave imposed a self-ban from the big dance last year. SMU blew out Cincinnati in the American League championship which gave them automatic berth. SMU hasn’t lost since January 12th and they definitely want to keep that going heading in.

3. Team: Iowa State

Why They Could Make a Run: The BIG12 Champs Iowa State are looking to make a run in March Madness this year. They have gone under the radar for most of the year but again like most of these teams are looking to make a statement. They could possibly face BIG12 rival Kansas which would set up a great matchup and possibly an upset. The Cyclones beat West Virginia in the BIG12 tournament for the championship, along with the championship, gave them a good seed in the tournament. They face Nevada in the first round.

4. Team: Notre Dame

Why They Could Make a Run: Notre Dame has been there all season. Like UCLA, they have gone a little bit under the radar. Not entering the top 10 all season, the Irish beat some big teams at the right time. ND finished runner up in the ACC, losing to Duke in the final, something they should be proud of. Led by forward Bonzie Colson, he brings that presence that every team wants in March Madness. With his experience the irish are looking to make deep run heading into the big dance.
