2017 Colonial Council Baseball Preview
The High School Baseball season has kicked off as practices have begun and games are almost here (if the weather doesn't stop us). Let's take a look at his years teams and who I think will win each division and take the Colonial Council title this year!
Liberty Division:
Ichabod Crane:
Ichabod returns 5 starters and gain 2 more players from last years JV team and also Seniors Kaleb Aschenbrenner and Peter Volkmann. The Riders will look for leadership from Seniors Casey Rutkey, George Cox, Aschenbrenner, and Volkmann. I predict the Riders to go 16-3 this year.
La Salle:
La Salle is a good team who won the Colonial last year. Led by Senior and Seton Hall commit James Rubino the Cadets are looking to go back to back and surge into Sectionals.
Albany Academy:
Academy, another good team is looking to contend with La Salle and Ichabod. I think all three of these teams will be top contenders and when they play each other is definitely games to watch. Brett Young leads the Cadets into this season as they look towards a Class B Section 2 title.
Schalmont:
Schalmont is expected to be a middle of the pack team this year, but I think they can upset some teams and make a run in sectionals.
Watervliet:
Watervliet hasn’t been great in the past, but they are getting better. That being said I still can't see them getting anywhere this year. I think they will be a bottom of the pack team and will not make sectionals.
Catholic Central:
Catholic Central wasn’t good last year and I can't see them improving. Just like Watervliet i don't see them getting into Sectionals.
Patriot Division:
Voorheesville:
Voorheesville is the only team that I think will reach Sectionals in the Patriot Division.
Lansingburgh:
Lansingburgh is a good home team, especially on the turf, but I think good teams will beat them even if they are at home and ‘Burgh will not reach sectionals.
Cohoes:
Iona commit Derek Becker leads the Tigers into the 2017 season. The Tigers are a weaker team, but I think they can come up with some quality wins and maybe upset a Lansingburgh or Voorheesville team.
Cobleskill:
Cobleskill another bottom of the pack team that I think can upset some teams sectional hopes.
Ravena:
Matt Ferriero a Fairfield commit leads his Indians into the 2017 season. I think Ravena will come in last in the Patriot Division this year.
