Giants sign Brandon Marshall to a 2yr $12M dollar deal.
Today the New York Giants announced that they have signed ex Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall to a 2yr $12M dollar deal. He will now be paired up with Odell Beckham Jr and Sterling Shepard. Does this signing make the Giants have the best Wide Receiving combination in the league?
Jared McCabe's Take: This is one signing that will lead to other multiple dominoes to fall in the future for the Giants in free agency and the draft. I loved this signing because he's a clear upgrade over Victor Cruz who struggled to get open last year, and when he did get the ball, he didn’t have that explosive speed that he had in the past. This is the first time in Marshall’s career where he’s on a good team that has to chance to make the playoffs and has a chance to make a run to the Super Bowl, and also he’s finally on a team that has a good quarterback in Eli Manning. Marshall should be happy because he will be on the opposite side of Odell Beckham jr, and since defensive backs will double cover Odell, that will leave a less defensive back on Marshall, which will probably be 1on1 coverage and that should be advantage Marshall. Beckham jr, Shepard, and Marshall should give defensive coordinators headaches game planning for them. This is a win-win for the Giants because it's less cost effective and Marshall should bring lots to the table for the Giants.
Camdyn Ames Take: I think this is a good move for the Giants, Marshall can fill Victor Cruz’s old role. This also gets him paired up with Eli Manning, a guy who’s gone to the Super Bowl and won it twice. Let’s face it, Fitzpatrick/Geno wasn’t a great QB situation in New York and Cutler in Chicago wasn’t great for Marshall either. This signing will also attract more free agents, and potential draftees. If the Giant offense can get going again, and the defense can play how they did last year the Giants could possibly make a nice playoff run. Not to mention Marshall is teaming up with Odell Beckham Jr. one of the best receivers in the league. If Odell is off just go to Brandon, if Brandon is off go to Odell, and if there is a rare occasion where they are both off then you have Sterling Shepard in the slot.
f the Jets, I can see him getting back to his Chicago days (Top 5 in reAndrew Martin’s Take: When I first saw that this trade was made, I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. Now that I see Brandon Marshall on the Giants instead oceiving yards and TD’s). He is now behind a 2-time Super Bowl MVP in Eli Manning which could get him back on track. I also feel that with a duo like Odell and Marshall, they are going to take the league by storm. Defenses should be scared of this duo of two of the best in the league. Something that I also found surprising about this trade is that the Giants got him for a cheap price of 2 yr/$12 mil. This is great opportunity for the Giants because, they have a replacement for Victor Cruz and it is also a great opportunity for Marshall to show that he can get back where he left off.
