Is the EPL a Race for Second?

With Chelsea leading the league with 59 points coming into week 25, and no other team in sight, are they the definite winners? Is the league now just a race for second place?

Chelsea has been playing great recently and don’t seem like they are going to slow down anytime soon. They haven’t lost a game since week 20 when they were defeated 2-0 at White Hart Lane to second place Tottenham. They have the third highest scorer in the league. Striker Diego Costa has become one of the most prestigious attackers in world soccer, and midfielder Eden Hazard has gotten back his form after a terrible year last season. He has recorded 10 goals so far and has become a top player not only in the EPL, but also one of the best in all of Europe. The defence has been strong as well. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has become undoubtedly the best keeper in the league, leading all others with 13 clean sheets, and also tallying up 47 saves. Central midfielder N’Golo Kanté is third in the league with 82 tackles. These are the reasons I think that Chelsea has the championship in the bag.

But who will come in second place? I strongly believe that Manchester City can rise up and challenge Chelsea. They have arguably the best passer in the league in Kevin de Bruyne, who currently leads the Premier League with 9 assists, often times setting up teammates like Sergio Agüero. But scoring has been a struggle for them. The second highest goal scorer on the team is Raheem Sterling, who has just 5 goals so far this season. If they want to become the better team, they have to play more through balls and long passes to try to set up more attacking options. Before they do that, Chelsea will go untouched for the remainder of the season.
