St. Bonaventure Snubbed by VCU by Andrew Martin
Today, the VCU Rams came into Olean to take on the defending co-champions of the A10, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. It was a close game the whole way and St. Bonaventure Junior, Matt Mobley, had a career-high 34 points against the Rams. Three of those points came with under a second left in regulation when Mobley hit a three from the corner to put the Bonnie's up 66-65 with 0.4 seconds left in regulation. The Rams took the ball out and when the buzzer had apparently sounded, the Bonnies student section stormed the court. Once they were forced off of the court by school security, the referees checked out what had happened on that play. Since, the fans disrupted the game, that was a technical foul towards the Bonnies and the refs put 0.5 seconds on the clock. The Rams sinned their free throw, and the game went into overtime. The Bonnies eventually lost the game 83-77. This game could have been crucial to the Bonnies in the A10 standings and their chances of getting into the March Madness tournament also. One can only imagine what coach Mark Schmidt is thinking right now and what will happen to the St. Bonaventure students. I was fortunate enough to be at that game to see the ultimate thriller. I will never forget that game for the rest of my life.
