Final- Iona 77, Siena 66
Albany, NY- Both teams tied for 3rd place in the MAAC, one team looking to take control and it was simply Iona throughout. Game being playing at the Times Union Center in front of 6,826 fans, Siena couldn’t take advantage of home court.
Iona shooting 54.5% in the first half you knew from the start that they wanted this game. It was all Ricky McGill for the Gaels totaling 16 in the first half shooting 7-9 from the field. Iona scored most of their points inside scoring 24 in the paint compared to Siena’s 16. Iona held the lead the entire first half with their biggest lead reaching 12.
In the second half Iona came out with a bang hitting back to back 3’s. Iona lost fire shooting 10-27 on field goal attempts, a whopping 37%. Free throws were huge for the Saints only making 11 out of 21 the whole game. Iona led the entire game dominating the game. Rickey McGill finished with 22 for the Gaels.
Siena had a hard time finding the bottom of the net tonight, especially from 3 point range. From the sidelines you could tell that Siena was frustrated. Not a bad game for Wright who had 16, but with only 2 other players in double digits, the bench needs to step up and help him. Iona’s bench was consistant tonight outscoring Siena 27-10. From an analyist standpoint, Siena looked weak tonight. Iona isn’t that great of a team and Siena got simply outplayed.
Siena looks to get back on track when they take on Quinnipiac on the 30th at 7PM. Iona looks to go up in the standings on the 29th against St. Peters.
