Nikita Nesterov traded to the Canadiens By Caden Balint
On January 26th 2017, Nikita Nesterov was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for Jonathan Racine and a 2017 6th round pick.
Nesterov was drafted in 2011, 148th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Lighting. Nesterov, who is 23 years old, has played his whole career with the Lighting. In 2014-2015 he helped the Lighting reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 2003-2004 season, which is also when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup last. In the 2014-2015 season, the Lighting would lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games. Last year Nesterov finished the season with 3 goals, 6 assists and 41 penalty minutes in 57 games. So far this year Nesterov has 3 goals, 9 assists and 20 penalty minutes in 35 games.
Jonathan Racine, who is 23 years old, was drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2011, 87th overall. Racine has yet to score his first NHL goal, playing in only 1 game with the Panthers. Racine was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on October 6th 2016 for Tim Bozon. Currently Racine is playing for the Syracuse Crunch, the AHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lighting.
Currently the Tampa Bay Lightning are 6th in the Atlantic Division and 22nd in the league with 22 wins, 22 losses and 6 overtime losses with 50 points. The Montreal Canadiens are currently 1st in the Atlantic Division and 6th in the league with 29 wins, 14 losses and 7 overtime losses with 65 points. Currently the Lighting are at a 1 game losing streak, this goes the same for the Canadians.
