Sharks trade Wingels to the Senators
On January 24th 2017, the San Jose Sharks traded Tommy Wingels to the Ottawa Senators for Buddy Robinson, Zack Stortini and a 7th round pick in the 2017 NHL draft. Wingels, who is 28, was drafted in the 2008 NHL draft, 177th overall. He has played his 6 years in the NHL with the Sharks. Last year he helped the Sharks reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in their history. Last year Wingels finished the year with 7 goals 11 assists and 63 penalty minutes in 68 games, this year Wingels has 5 goals 3 assists and 15 penalty minutes in 37 games played.
Now for the Senators players. Buddy Robinson, 25 years old, was an undrafted forward of the Ottawa Senators, has only played 7 career games in the NHL, notching both a goal and an assist in those 7 games. Currently Robinson is playing in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda. Zack Stortini, 31 years old, was drafted in the 2003 NHL draft, 94th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers. Stortini has played in 257 games in his career, scoring 14 goals and 27 assists with 20 penalty minutes in this time span. Right now Stortini is playing in the AHL with Robinson.
Right now the San Jose Sharks are 1st in the Pacific Division and 7th in the league with 31 wins, 16 losses and 2 overtime losses with 64 points. Right now the Sharks are on a 6 game winning streak. The Ottawa Senators right now are 2nd in the Atlantic division and 11th in the league with 26 wins, 15 losses and 5 overtime losses with 57 points with a 1 game winning streak. If you were to ask me I think that Ottawa Senators won the trade because they are getting a good player who has playoff experience with the Sharks.
