NYCFC Get Two Studs in MLS SuperDraft by Jake Martino
Out with the old and in with the new it seems for NYCFC. New head coach Patrick Vieira has had a plan from the start and currently, it’s working.
NYCFC shocked everyone and traded up for the #3 pick in the MLS SuperDraft and selected Jonathan Lewis. Lewis is a midfielder out of the University of Akron. Lewis is speedy and is an outstanding passer. Only one year at Akron and tallied 12 assists in 22 games. Lewis must have been doing something right to take appeal to Vieira’s team layout. I think he will fit great with the team and is something they need as far as speed. With the loss of Frank Lampard, I think Jonathan Lewis is a smart pick and I give them a solid A+.
NYC also had the 16th pick in the draft where they selected Kwame Awuah a defender from UConn. Awuah is a versatile midfielder and defender with lots of speed. Many people compare him to midfielder Ronald Matterita, a play that Vieira took a liking too over the 2016 season. He started all 19 games for UConn last season and totaled seven assists and two goals.
