Alexander Ovechkin Reaches 1,000 Career Points by Caden Balint


On January 10th, 2017, Alexander “Ovi” Ovechkin would be able to notch 3 points to reach his 999th career point. Not only that, but he would also be able to tie Maurice “The Rocket” Richard in goals with a total of 544 goals to tie 29th all time in goals. Then, on January 11th, 2017, Ovechkin was able to score in the early stages against the Pittsburgh Penguins and he was able to reach his 1,000th career and his 545 career goals. This puts Ovechkin at 28th all time in goals. Ahead of him is Michel Goulet with 548 goals and in 27th place is Ron Francis with 549 goals. Ovi moves up to 84th in all time scoring in the NHL, right behind Brian Propp who has 1,004 points. Ovechkin looks to reach 600 career goals in his career by the end of the season. Not only did he score his 1,000th career point, but he also scored his 1,001 career points. Ovechkin is now tied for fifth in goals this season with 20 goals, six behind Sidney Crosby for the lead. For the past 4 years, Ovechkin has won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy, scoring 50 goals in the past 3 years.
