ICYMI: Records are Being Set Across the Sports World by Caden Balint
So, a great start to 2017 started off by Stephen Curry moving up to 15th all time in 3-pointers made and Daniel Sedin notched his 600th career assist in his career. So now I will talk about recent milestones set by players in the NHL and NBA.
So to start off, let's talk about the ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr who advanced up to 2nd in all time in points with 1891 points, passing Mark Messier who was standing at 1887. Jagr is 44 years old, the oldest player now and the oldest player to ever record a hat-trick. He has won a stanley cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and in 1992, he has won the Hart Memorial Trophy three times in a row, he has won the Art Ross Trophy. This “ageless wonder” has played for 8 teams from 1988-present. He has also won the Lester B. Pearson award. Another forward in the NHL who has set a record is Daniel Sedin. He reached his 600th career assist against the Avalanche on January 3rd, 2017. His brother, Henrik has also set 600 career assists. Right now, Henrik Sedin is sitting at 996 points in his whole career.
Onto goaltender achievements. Henrik Lundqvist now has the most wins for a European born goaltenders. On New Year's Eve, Lundqvist surpassed Dominik Hasek for the most wins by a European born goalie at 390 wins in his career. Henrik Lundqvist has played his whole career with the New York Rangers. He was a very late pick in the 2000 NHL draft getting picked 205th overall. This is a big milestone for Henrik, as he looks to reach 400 soon. Another big thing happened the same game that Daniel Sedin reached his 600th career assist. Ryan Miller won his 350th game of his career. He is the 21st player in the NHL to reach that many wins.
Let’s get off the sport of hockey and get on to the NBA. On January 3rd, Stephen Curry made a huge milestone for his career. He moved up to 15th in 3-pointers made in his career. So far he has made 1,722. He now has 14th all time 3-pointers made in sight as it is held by J.R. Smith at 1,729. In first all time is Ray Allen, who is sitting at 2,973.
