Cavs Win Finals Rematch in Stunning Comeback by Mike Fritz
This Sunday, Christmas Day, was the first time the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have played since last year’s NBA finals. There was a lot of anticipation for this game, which was by far the most exciting game of the season so far.
The Warriors led at the half, 55-52. They were led by Kevin Durant’s 17 points. Throughout the third quarter, Golden State seemed like they were in the clear. At the end of the third, the Warriors led 87-80.
The fourth quarter was electrifying. Richard Jefferson’s two dunks on both KD and Klay Thompson brought the crowd to their feet. By then, the Cavs were back in the game, tied at 105. With about one minute left in the game, Stephen Curry hit a clutch three. The ball got back in the hands of the Cavs, and Kyrie Irving made it a one point game with an acrobatic layup over Curry. Golden State brought the ball back up, but heavy defense from the Cavs forced a shot clock violation. With about four seconds left, Kyrie Irving hit a turnaround fadeaway shot over Klay Thompson to give Cleveland a one point lead. The warriors had enough time to get of a shot, but pesky defense from Richard Jefferson caused Kevin Durant to trip and fall, unable to get a shot off. The Warriors looked for a foul, but didn’t get anything from the refs. The Cavaliers defeat the Warriors, 109-108 in the most thrilling game of the season.
