It was rivalry night in Section 2 hockey last night, and we were there to catch CBA play La Salle. The rink was packed with nowhere to sit. Students fired up looking to see if CBA would keep the streak or if La Salle could stay undefeated in league play and snap the streak. La Salle did just that breaking the streak and scoring 6 goals. Here is the rundown of the game.
Back and forth in the first period scoring two goals total but after that it belonged to La Salle. The first goal belonged to who other than Logan Discanio. Discanio finished with 2 goals and 2 assists ending his hat trick streak. Coach Flanigan added after the game that his play his play has simply been “Outstanding”. Lately, La Salle has been depending on Discanio for goals lately but last night it wasn’t him scoring. Mulson, Murray, Rudd, O'Bryan all had goals for the Cadets. The penalties killed CBA last night and it decided the game. La Salle scoring most goals on the power play, and especially taking advantage on a four-minute major scoring two goals. La Salle sealed the deal when Christian Rudd scored La Salle’s 6th goal of the night.
La Salle players and students had nerves coming into the game, with junior Casey Boone getting his second spot start. Boone picked up his second straight win for the Cadets and in great fashion against CBA. Boone had 16 saves on the night. Coach Tim Flanigan added after the game that “Casey did a great job, he had a couple of great saves and I am real happy with the way he has been playing”. Boone commented after the game that “The defensive core of O’Brian and Gieger really helped my nerves against our rival and I was happy with their play”.
“The kids have been working hard lately and it all starts with practice” Flanigan said about the current hot streak. Can the Cadets keep the streak alive? They are back in action on the 26th when they take on West Seneca at Union College in the Nisky tournament. CBA is back on the ice again tomorrow against BHBS.
