Kemba Walker out performing expectations. Why aren’t the rest of the Hornets Backing Him Up? By Jake
With the Charlotte Hornets surging into the 2016-17 season, what is their current boost of energy? Well of course its Kemba Walker leading the team to victories left and right. It isn’t going to be easy in the Eastern Conference this season and the Hornets need to keep the pedal on the gas all season.
The first ten games of the season the Hornets were 7-3 to open the season, and the last 13 games they are currently 7-6. That is something that the Hornets need to change immediately in order to win games this season. They can’t take their foot off the gas pedal.
Kemba Walker this season has exceeded expectations this year so far. On the verge of being an all-star once again, what more could we expect from him? I think he could possibly be the next Kobe Bryant. Only 5 years in the league and is outperforming some vets that have been in the league for 10-15 years. Currently averaging 23.3 points per game can we see that rise or lower before the All-Star break?
But why are the Hornets only 14-9 this season? Kemba Walker is carrying the team right now and in some games, him carrying the team isn’t enough. Only 4 other people in the lineup are averaging at least 10 points per game. If the Hornets want to beat the Cavs, they need to start producing offensively. Lebron, Kyrie and Love are all averaging at least 20 points per game. Many people, including myself, expected them to have a better record than what they are now. Also the I expected the players to be performing to a higher elite level.
Last year the Hornets as a team were averaging 103.4 points per game compared to this year’s 104.7 points per game. With a team with lots of potential, they should have a higher average to have risen at least more than 1 point. If the Hornets need to contend they need to improve that number to 110 points per game to compete with the Warriors 118 points per game.
The schedule is only getting harder for the Hornets and they need to improve before the end of the season. Tonight they take on the streaking Cavaliers in what should be an interesting matchup. For now, we will see how the rest of the season plays out for the Hornets. But for continued coverage of the Charlotte Hornets and the rest of the NBA, stay with Upstate Sports Zone…
