2016 Heisman Preview by Camdyn Ames
This years Heisman finalists group is filled with nothing but athletes. The finalists are:
1. Lamar Jackson, QB, UL
2. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clem
3. Jabrill Peppers, LB/DB, UM
4. Baker Mayfield, QB, OU
5. Dede Westbrook, WR, OU
Lets start off with the favorite, Lamar Jackson.
Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Louisville
Passing:
220/382, 3390 yards, 30 TD, 9 int, 153.3 QBR
Rushing:
234 att, 1538 yards, 21 TD
Jackson showed a great improvement from last year when we only threw 12 TD's in the full 12 game schedule. Jackson has been on the Heisman watch for almost the entire season, he was bound to make it here, but with Louisville losing 2 out of the last 3 it will be interesting to see how they grade him with those performances.
The Underdog(s):
Baker Mayfield, QB, OU
Dede Westbrook, WR, OU
Baker Mayfield:
Passing:
235/330, 3669 yds, 38 TD, 8 int, 197.8 QBR
Rushing:
74 att, 143 yds, 6 TD
Dede Westbrook:
Receiving:
74 rec, 1465 yds, 16 TD
Both Westbrook and Mayfield are
my underdogs. They are overlooked by so many. Westbrook is an elusive wide receiver that can kill you if he gets the ball in his hands, wether it's a juke move or just flat out speed. Mayfield has become more of a traditional QB this year, and he's starting to leave the rushing game behind. Mayfield he improved his passing increasing his QBR 24.5% from last years 173.3.
The Iron-Man:
Jabrill Peppers, LB/DB, UM
Defense:
48 solo tkl, 23 ast tkl, 71 tkl, 1 int, 15 tfl, 3.5 sacks
Offense:
Rush: 27 att, 167 yds, 3 TD
Receiving: 2 rec, 3 yds
Michigan's Jabrill Peppers is the definition of an Iron-Man. He has lined up at 6 different positions this year, 3 on offense, and 3 on defense. Jabrill could win this award as easily as Lamar Jackson, and no one would see it coming.
My Prediction:
Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
Passing:
329/487, 3914 yds, 37 TD, 15 int, 154.0 QBR
Rushing:
129 att, 529 yds, 6 TD
Watson could easily win this award. Just like Mayfield he's focused more on the pass game. I think Watson will win this years award.
The Heisman Trophy Award winner will be announced on Saturday, December 10th at 8:00 pm on ESPN.
