Why are the Cleveland Browns Horrible? By Upstate Sports Zone Writers

It is without a doubt in my mind that I could easily say that the Cleveland Browns are worse than the Bad News Bears and they played back in the 70’s. Some people are even coming to the thought that the Browns should play against one of the best coached college programs in Alabama. But what exactly makes the Cleveland Browns so horrible? Let our writers break it down for you…

Jake Martino- Want my opinion on what I think of the Browns? I don’t think you do but I’ll tell you anyway. Let me first start by letting you know how bad I feel for every coach that has been through that organization and especially current coach Hue Jackson. Jackson has never really coached a team this bad. When I heard that he was going to be the head coach I thought there was a shot. Well, that is just until I watched the first snap of the 2016 season. Then my mind was made up that the Browns were going 0-16. But the first problem is the organization itself. Who would want to play for an organization that has no incoming players or no players producing? If a team were to go 0-16 would you want to play for them? Exactly, you wouldn’t. My last point that I want to bring up is the situation of quarterback. Coming into this season the plan was to have Robert Griffin III be the QB. He made progress in his first game until he got hurt with a fractured shoulder mid-game week 1 . He was either projected to miss 8 games or the whole season. But again it is week 12 and we still haven’t seen him back on the field. Since week 1 the Browns have tried a couple other QB’s including Josh McCown, Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan but with all of them getting hurt, what is next for the Browns? Some players though are showing potential, including wide receiver Terrelle Pryor and DB Jordan Poyer who was showing potential until he was hospitalized with a lacerated kidney after a hard hit against the Titans. 2 players showing full potential isn’t enough to win a football game and that is just common sense. Will the Browns ever show potential or prove to be a winning franchise ever again? The world may never know the Tootsie Roll Owl once said. The world may never know...

Jared McCabe- My opinion on the Browns is there the worst organization in all of sports and an embarrassment to the NFL. The city of Cleveland should be happy that LeBron and the Cavs are good and the Indians because the Browns won’t be competitive anytime soon. The main problem is the organization has proven that they can’t draft well, especially quarterbacks. A local city store has a jersey hanging with about 21 names crossed off. So it proves that they can’t have a consistent starting quarterback to put behind center for every game. They thought they had a face of the franchise quarterback in Johnny Manziel, but look how that turned out. Hue Jackson took a chance on RGIII. I don’t think it was a big deal to sign him, but the only problem I had with it was he’s injury prone. Otherwise I didn’t mind them going and getting him out of a hard situation with the Redskins and bringing him over to see what he could do. The only bright spot for them is the wide receiver corps with Cory Coleman and Terrelle Pryor. The only problem is that Pryor's contract is almost up and they are going to have to prove to there fan base that they can resign a talent like him and have the pieces set for them to try to be competitive in the future.

Camdyn Ames- My opinion on the Cleveland Browns. One word: Terrible. The Browns are one of the unluckiest teams in all of the NFL. I mean look at how many quarterbacks they have had since 2003. 23 quarterbacks since 2003! Most franchises have only had 1-3 quarterbacks since then. 4 of those 23 quarterbacks were selected in the first round by the Browns. They thought they had a franchise QB in Johnny Manziel, but that didn't work out. None of them are still on the roster. Another example of unlucky is Josh Gordon. Josh Gordon was a great receiver in 2013, but failed drug tests and a number of suspensions kept him off the field. I believe the Browns will be good one day. That day may come next year, or in 20 years, but it will happen.

Andrew Martin- This season for the Browns is just flat out terrible. I hope that Cleveland is happy that they have Cavs and the Indians because, if they didn’t have them, I would consider Cleveland the worst sports town in the world. They have had Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Kevin Hogan, and Cody Kessler play this season. Robert Griffin III was supposed to be the starting QB this year, but look what happened to him against the Eagles. BOOM, he’s injured. What is weird is that the Browns had the 2nd overall pick in the 2016 draft. What did they do with it? Oh right, they traded it away! They could have had Carson Wentz! I thought going into the season that with the Browns having RG3 and all of these good wide receivers like Corey Coleman. A star wideout from Baylor who had over 3,000 receiving yards and over 30 TD’s in his college career. Also, what about Terrelle Pryor and his hopes about being an all-around guy with him having experience as a QB. I had high hopes about the Browns. Until I saw their first game against the Patriots. In my opinion, this season could not be worse for the Browns. This season could be a possible repeat of the Detroit Lions 2008 season where they went 0-16. I think that out of all of the winless teams in NFL history, the Browns have basically no all-star players (well maybe except for Joe Thomas), but I still could not see a worse roster than the Browns 2016 roster. With their upcoming games, I highly believe that they can go 0-16. But hey, I heard that the Cavs are doing good right?

Austin Walsh- Why are the Cleveland Browns terrible? Well let's start off with their basic player skills; field awareness, strength, size, power, blocking, passing, receiving, running, etc. Over the years their statistics show nothing to impressive with the exception of a few players throughout the seasons. The Browns have had a few talented players, but these players weren't able to display their skills. This of course would be due to the lack of line blocking, or the simple ,but probable, notion that their quarterback just isn't good. This season is yet another losing season for the franchise. Also it is very hard to succeed when your starting roster is constantly changing. Especially when one of the biggest changes is happening with one of your most significant players. In the Browns’ place it is the quarterback position. The team has changed it starting quarterback so many times just in the past few years. It is very hard to get used to a quarterback almost every two months or so. It is hard to get on a roll and start producing. All in all the reason the Cleveland Browns are terrible is practically unknown, but everyone can agree, even their fans, that they are in a deep hole. The team hasn't found someone or something to pull them out of the mess and put them back on top. I believe that when the Browns get a few top draft picks and a solid quarterback then the team will start improving. Until that time comes the Cleveland Browns will be winless.
