Are the Marlins for Real? by Jared McCabe

Last night the Miami Marlins won in style winning big against the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0. Coming into the game they were a game behind the Cardinals in the NL Wild Card race. Recently the Marlins have surprised people and at the All Star Break they ended 47-41 the best record at the All Star Break in their history since 1997 when they ended up beating the Cleveland Indians in the World Series. Their recent play and moves has everyone asking are they legit?

Well the Marlins are being led by arguably one of the best young arms in the game by Jose Fernandez and one of the best power hitters in the game in Giancarlo Stanton. The Marlins front office has built the team around these two big faces of the franchise and they want to add some players at the deadline to help them make the next step to ensure they make the playoffs because they haven’t been to the playoffs in over 7 years and they’d love to end that drought. The recent moves indicate that they are going for it because they acquired pitchers Andrew Cashner and Colin Rea from the Padres for a couple prospects. These aren’t the “big sexy pitchers” but they will definitely help the Marlins make that next step and sell to the fan base they are willing to make that next step.

I believe the Marlins are a true contender because they have one of the best lineups in the game that can spread the ball around the field. If they make the second wild card, it’s a one game playoff and Don Mattingly would be happily to hand the ball off to Jose Fernandez. If you’re a Marlins fan you gotta feel confident because he can pitch and he would give them that chance to move on in the playoffs and hopefully make a deep run into October. It’s an exciting time in Miami and its only going to get better.
